Family Nature Programs
“Cross Country Skiing”
Winter Hike

Pammel Park Nature Center
Whether you’re an ametuer or an avid cross country skier, come along with us as we make a trip through Pammel Park.  Skiis not included, but some extras may be available.  Call Emily at 462-3536 to sign up.

“Where is Everybody”
Winter Hike

Pammel Park Nature Center
Join us as we hike a trail in Pammel Park to find out where all the creatures are at this time of year.  This a program for the whole family (dress warmly).

 Maple Syrup Demonstration
Saturday, March 8th 10:00am
Pammel Park Lodge
Bring your families out for some pancakes and see how syrup is made.  MCCB will be making syrup from 8-11am in conjunction with the Kiwanis Pancake Feed.  A formal demonstration will be at 10am, which will give the history of making syrup and the basics of making your own.

“Invasive Species”
Monday, April 21st

Pammel Park Nature Center
Learn what are some plant and animal species that are trying to invade our state and county.  Also learn about basic ID and approaches to these nonnatives.  Local biologist will be on hand to take questions.

Sandhill Crane Trip
March 15-16
Join the Madison County Conservation Board as we head to Grand Island, Nebraska to view the Sandhill Cranes on the Platte River.  Bird enthusiasts travel thousands of miles each year to central Nebraska to witness one of the most spectacular wildlife happenings in the Midwest. 
This $160 trip package includes transportation, admission prices, hotel room (breakfast), crane tour, blind rental and handling fees. 
Call Emily at 462-3536 for more information and  a registration packet.  Reserve your spot by February 11th.

“Nature Tales”
Winterset Public Library
3:45 p.m.– 4:30 p.m.
Nature Tales is a fun, hands-on program for all ages. Join us for an wildlife story and activity to learn about critters.  Live and dead animals will come and visit! Program is every other Tuesday, beginning September 25th.
Dates: January 15th
February 5th and 19th
March 18th, April 15th

SNOW CAMP
Pammel Park Nature CenterFebruary 16th

Madison County Conservation and  Extension Office will be hosting its first annual Snow Camp for grades 1-3rd and 4-6th.  This camp will explore the world of snow with indoor and outdoor activities.  The camp will include crafts, fun snow activities, safety and survival tips, winter snacks and much more.  Camp for 1-3rd graders will be in the morning from 9-12pm and 4-6th grade will be from 1-4pm. 
Please check the camp your child will be attending:
 ___  Grade 1-3rd (9am to 12pm) This camp will introduce kids to the world of snow through games, crafts, outdoor exploration, and a snack.

___ Grade 4-6th (1pm to 4pm)  This camp will teach kids about winter survival and different activities that can be done in the snow.

Hunter Education Class
The Madison County Conservation Board will offer a traditional Hunter Education Course on February 26th, 28th and March 1st at the Pammel Park Nature Center and the Madison County Sportsmen Club.  Classes on February 26th and 28th will be held at the Pammel Park Nature Center from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  and the March 8th class will be held at the Madison County Sportsmen Club from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Students must attend all three sessions to complete the class.
