FISHING The most popular game fish in Iowa, the Channel Catfish, can be caught in any of the river systems in Madison County. The following parks provide river fishing activity. Middle River Middle River Park: Located 1 mile south of Winterset on County Road P-71. Pammel Park: Located 4 miles southwest of Winterset on County Highway P68. One of the most productive sights in Madison County for Channel cats, monster Flatheads and Blue cats is right below the ford in Pammel Park. When the fish are feeding the ford is lined with anglers. North River Guye Woods: Located approximately 6 miles northeast of Winterset. |

Criss
Cove Located 8 miles south of Winterset on Highway 169. Fishing is good in this 9 acre pond. Maximum depth of over 23 feet, and a spring feed water source creates an optimum fishery. Large-Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Channel Catfish are kept stocked in the pond. Due to location near the highway, Criss Cove receives heavy fishing pressure. |

Fellowship
Forest Located approximately 4 miles southwest of Winterset. This small pond provides a fun place for youngsters to wet a line. The pond is stocked annually with catfish. |

DEER
CREEK UNIT Clanton Creek Natural Resource Area: Located approximately 10 miles southeast of Winterset. Pond fishing is good in this 6 acre pond. Maximum depth of over 25 feet and less pressure from walk-in access makes this an optimum fishery. Large-Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Channel Catfish are kept stocked in the pond. Short hike (5 minutes) from Deer Creek parking lot required to gain access to pond. |

Badger Creek Lake: 276 Acre reservoir managed by the Iowa DNR. 15 miles northeast of Winterset. Winterset City Lake: 70 Acre lake managed by Winterset Municipal Utilities. 3 miles northeast of Winterset. |
